Travels in Kashmir and the Panjab, Containing a Particular Account of the Government and Character of the Sikhs

Regular price $25.00

By: Baron Charles Hugel, Translated from German with Notes by Major T.B. Jervis

First published in 1845, this edition was reprinted in 2000 by Low Price Publications, Delhi.    It is a hardcover book in very good condition, no dust jacket, coverboards showing some light shelf wear and small corner dent.  Size:  9" x 6".  420 pages including a few illustrations.

Although this is a travel journal printed from notes and diary entries, Baron Hugel includes a good amount of local background and history as he knew it.  It is interesting to hear details and perceptions from the mid 19th century, and piece that together with what we know today. Baron Hugel is articulate, observant, and insightful in his view of the Sikhs and Maharaja Ranjit Singh's kingdom.
